Tangier Prepares for 2030 World Cup with Major Infrastructure Upgrades

The city of Tangier is working behind the scenes to prepare for the hosting of major international events, including the 2030 World Cup.
Well-informed sources have revealed to Hespress that many meetings are currently being held under the aegis of Wali Younès Tazi. The objective: to launch a series of large-scale projects from 2025 to modernize the "pearl of the North".
On the program: development of the tourism offer and rehabilitation of the road network to improve traffic flow, often chaotic at peak hours. The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region and the city of Tangier are working hand in hand to create new access roads and roundabouts, similar to those built in Mghogha and on the road to Tetouan.
The authorities have opted for a strategy of discretion, preferring to "work away from the spotlight" in order to avoid any disruption. The focus is on improving road infrastructure and traffic management. The high-level bus service project and the cable car project connecting the Kasbah to the port are well underway.
To optimize traffic, the region has relied on the expertise of an international study center. In-depth analyses have been carried out to identify black spots and propose effective solutions. While some delays are to be expected, travel should be generally smoother and better organized.
These efforts are part of the perspective of the 2030 World Cup. It should be remembered that the rather inglorious ranking attributed to Tangier by FIFA in the list of candidate cities had provoked an outcry among the inhabitants. Many had then pointed the finger at the officials and elected representatives, demanding accountability for this situation that has tarnished the city’s reputation.
