Tangier Rushes Hotel Construction to Meet FIFA World Cup Standards

Tangier is accelerating the pace to meet the requirements of FIFA for the 2030 World Cup. According to professional sources, the city plans to issue exceptional permits for the construction of new hotels.
This decision follows an evaluation report by FIFA, which pointed out several weaknesses in the infrastructure of the candidate city. Public services, particularly hotels and public transportation, were deemed insufficient to accommodate the influx of visitors expected during this major sporting event.
The report, the result of several months of on-site inspections, gave a score of only 2.2 to Tangier’s hotel services, noting "a severe lack of accommodation infrastructure." Public transportation did not fare much better, with an average score of 2.6 out of 5.
However, the Grand Stadium of Tangier fares rather well with an average score of 4.0, even surpassing some renowned Spanish stadiums.
Despite this positive point, the local authorities of Tangier are not resting on their laurels. Aware of the urgency of the situation, they have already put in place plans for the construction of new hotel facilities. The objective is clear: to strengthen the competitiveness of the city and allow it to host the final phases of the 2030 World Cup under the best conditions.
The FIFA report also pointed to similar shortcomings in other candidate cities, notably Fez, San Sebastian and Zaragoza, all of which suffer from a lack of hotel rooms.
