Tangier Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal Beach Assault Over Beer

A man was sentenced to a heavy prison sentence after killing another individual for a beer in Tangier.
On Thursday, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tangier sentenced a 30-year-old man to 20 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter, reports the daily Al Akhbar. He is accused of "assault and battery resulting in involuntary manslaughter."
The facts with which he is charged occurred last August, in the middle of the high season, near the famous Merkala beach. As he was preparing his dinner, he saw another individual sipping beers. Apparently feeling the need to drink, he asked him for one, but was met with a refusal from the other. An argument breaks out and escalates into a fight between the two men. Shortly afterwards, the convicted man goes home, grabs a small bladed weapon and returns to the scene to settle the score with the victim. He will be arrested on the spot. Transferred to the regional hospital of Tangier, the victim did not survive.
Tried before the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Tangier, he claims not to have had the intention of delivering a fatal blow to his rival. He will be sentenced to 20 years in prison for "assault and battery resulting in involuntary manslaughter." He has a few days to appeal before the same court.
