Moroccan Teen Sentenced to 15 Years for Defending Fiancée in Alleged Assault

The court of first instance of Tangier sentenced on Tuesday to 15 years in prison a 19-year-old young man, accused of a man he accuses of having assaulted his fiancée.
During his trial, the young man, in his final year of high school, recounted that he and the young woman he claims to be his fiancée were walking in the Chohadas cemetery area of the city when she asked him to accompany her to an isolated place to relieve herself. But once they arrived at an abandoned villa, they were kidnapped by two individuals who threatened them with a bladed weapon and demanded the payment of 1,000 dirhams for their release.
The accused adds that he contacted one of his relatives to bring the requested sum. Meanwhile, the two kidnappers took the young woman into a room of the abandoned building and tried to rape her. It was then that he fought with one of the criminals who was brandishing a bladed weapon, managing to disarm him and stab him in the neck. As for the second aggressor, he managed to escape.
Alerted, the security services went to the scene where they found the victim in critical condition. Rushed to the regional hospital, she died a few hours later. An investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to elucidate the case, which led to the arrest of the young man and his conviction to 15 years in prison for "blows and injuries causing death without intent to give it".
