Wealthy Moroccan Sentenced to Death in High-Profile Murder Case

The trial of the accused in the murder of young Badr Bouljoihel has come to an end. The Court of Appeal in Casablanca has just sentenced the main accused to death and the other defendants to sentences ranging from 5 years in prison to life imprisonment.
The main accused, Achraf R., known as "Ould Lefchouch", was sentenced to death. He was prosecuted for premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder, participation in a robbery and use of violence, and various other crimes.
The accused Amin R., who had claimed to be the driver of the vehicle that hit the young Badr, was sentenced to life imprisonment. Another defendant, Abderrafik Z, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The court also sentenced the accused Ahmed S. to 20 years in prison, and Hamid A, a relative of the main accused, to 5 years in prison.
Badr Bouljoihel, a 23-year-old doctoral student at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Mohammedia, had been run over at the end of July by the car of a "rich kid", after being severely beaten in the parking lot of a restaurant in Ain Diab, Casablanca. His death had caused an outcry on social media.
