Tangier Gears Up for Summer Tourism Surge as Hotels and Beaches Prepare

Hotel operators and the authorities in Tangier are already preparing to welcome the many national and foreign tourists, as well as Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), who will visit the city this summer.

"The early end of the rainy season, combined with a significant rise in temperatures in recent weeks, has also prompted the city’s authorities to already install the various necessary facilities to welcome summer visitors to the city’s various beaches. This is the case, in particular, on the municipal beach of the Corniche de Tanger," reports Les Inspirations Eco.

The hotel operators in Tangier in particular and those in the North in general, hope to record the same influx of tourists as last summer when they were nearly three million to arrive in the city, a performance that was a "real source of satisfaction" for the professionals in the sector and positioned the North of Morocco "as one of the main tourist hubs of the Kingdom," writes the daily.

The operators also hope to benefit from the fallout from the last Mondialito and the "epic of the Atlas Lions, during the last World Cup in Qatar" during the upcoming high tourist season which promises to be "good", according to Ali Kadiri, president of the Regional Association of the Hotel Industry. "Tangier is one of the cities that have been selected to host some matches of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations [from June 24 to July 8, Ed.]. This, combined with the usual increase in attendance during the summer, is a source of optimism for tourism operators and hotel establishments," Kadiri points out, as quoted by the newspaper.

The professional calls for efforts to reduce maritime transport prices. "The cost of the sea crossing remains high. And for a destination as close to Europe as Tangier, the maritime route is sometimes more expensive than the air route".
