Tangier stormed by tourists this summer

Tourism is reviving in Tangier, to the delight of hoteliers who have recorded record occupancy rates this summer, ranging from "90 to 95%, even 100% for some".
"We can say that this high summer season has been a good deal for hoteliers in the city of Tangier. Almost all hotel establishments have posted occupancy rates ranging from 90 to 95%, even 100% for some," enthuses Ali Kadiri, president of the Hotel Industry Association for the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
In August, the city recorded strong tourist attendance. Last year, some three million tourists visited Tangier and its region during the high season. This year, the figures could exceed this performance, notes the Regional Tourism Council (CRT).
"The majority of tourists who visited Tangier’s hotel establishments are local tourists. This means that domestic tourism is a real option to support activity in the region, in addition to Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) and foreign tourists," details Kadiri to the daily Les Inspirations Eco.
Overnight rates, in both classified hotels and the informal sector, have also recorded an increase due to strong demand, it is specified, adding that families have a preference for apartments and vacation residences. This leads Kadiri to argue that "the hotel statistics alone do not allow to know the real number of visitors and nights spent in the city".
