Northern Morocco Braces for Summer Tourism Surge as 3 Million Visitors Expected

Northern Morocco is preparing for the high summer season. More than three million tourists, including MREs, are expected in cities like Tangier, Al Hoceima, Tetouan and Chefchaouen.
Tourism and catering professionals hope for a influx of domestic and foreign tourists in Tangier and the northern cities this summer. "We are preparing for the high season. And it will certainly be the big rush after the end of the baccalaureate exams," confides the manager of one of the chic restaurants in the Tangier Marina to the newspaper Les Inspirations Éco.
All the seaside resorts in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region are preparing to welcome tourists and make their stay pleasant. The various arteries of the cities and beaches in the region have been developed for this high summer season. To recall, 10 of the 27 beaches in the region have been labeled "Blue Flag" for this summer by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
"We are optimistic. I think the tourist season, especially the high season, looks good. This is all the more so since Tangier is one of the cities that have been selected to host some matches of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations [June 24 to July 8, editor’s note]," said Ali Kadiri, president of the Hotel Industry Association of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
Hoteliers hope to exceed the 3 million tourists who arrived in 2022, thanks to the massive arrival of MREs as part of the Marhaba 2023 Operation, the fallout from the last Mondialito and the historic journey of the Atlas Lions at the World Cup in Qatar.
