Tanger Med Port Upgrades for Summer Influx of Moroccan Expatriates

The Tanger Med port is about to welcome Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) as part of the "Marhaba 2023" operation, according to Kamal Lakhmas, the port’s director. A sum of around 80 million dirhams has been devoted to improving port facilities and services for travelers.
The fleet has been strengthened in order to transport around 40,000 passengers and 10,000 vehicles daily, he told M24, specifying that this increase in capacity is the result of collaboration between the various stakeholders, under the supervision of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in order to ensure the success of the operation and to facilitate traffic within the port.
For his part, Abdellah Omar Moussa, head of the medical-humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, mentions the mobilization of nearly 1,400 people, including doctors, social workers and volunteers, to assist and accompany Moroccans of the world.
The official also highlighted the significant contribution of the Ministry of Health, local and port authorities, and airport administrations, who have redoubled their efforts to assist the MREs during their trip. As every year, the Foundation has activated a nationwide and international reception system, consisting of 24 assistance sites that will remain operational throughout the duration of the operation.
To recall, the Tanger Med port concluded the Marhaba 2022 operation with a traffic of 1,352,322 passengers and 342,059 vehicles between June 5 and September 15, 2022, constituting respectively 59% and 64% of the passenger and vehicle traffic of Moroccan ports during this period. The Marhaba 2023 operation aims to surpass these figures, offering enhanced reception services in the ports of Tanger Med, Tanger Ville, Al Hoceima and Nador, as well as in airports and border posts. Abroad, six reception areas have been set up in the ports of Genoa (Italy), Sète and Marseille (France), Motril, Almería and Algeciras (Spain).
