Tangier Cracks Down on Shisha Cafes Following Fire Incident

A large-scale campaign is now underway against cafes serving shisha in Tangier.
The multiple raids carried out by the police in several cafes were initiated after the fire that broke out in a shisha cafe in Tangier, according to the daily Al Massae. They allowed the elements of the public services of the prefecture of the National Security of Tangier to seize several shisha vases and their accessories.
During this raid, some owners of the establishments concerned anonymously assured that they respect all the safety and hygiene standards. They also reported the job opportunities they offer to unemployed youth in the region to strengthen and promote the labor market.
The managers of these cafes also said they give bribes to certain authorities to secure their places in the market.
The fire, which broke out on the eve of the New Year in a shisha cafe on the Tangier corniche, caused two deaths. The public prosecutor near the Court of Appeal of the city decided to prosecute and detain the owner of the establishment.
