Deadly Fire in Tangier Shisha Café Prompts Crackdown on Safety Standards

An investigation has been opened after the death of two people in a shisha café in Tangier due to a fire. The local authorities have decided to clean up the sector.
The local authorities intend to strictly enforce the applicable standards and the decisions of the Tangier council regarding the operation of shisha cafes, reports Al Akhbar. The operators of these establishments are indeed obliged to comply with the decisions of the city council which issues the operating permits, in return for the collection of substantial taxes.
This decision was made following the fire that broke out on the night of Tuesday, December 31 to Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in the café called "Ô75 Paris", located in the Tulipe complex in Tangier. The preliminary investigation attributed the fire to a short circuit. The toll is two dead and five injured admitted urgently to the regional hospital of the city.
The investigation opened has revealed the true face of these establishments where nuisances, excesses, brawls, and corruption coexist. If these circles have not really been cleaned up, it is because the sanctions are unproductive, we are told. Moreover, there is an association that works to have the fines incurred in case of violation of the operating regulations of these establishments canceled, the same newspaper affirms.
