Casablanca Cafe Owners Convert Apartments to Illegal Shisha Bars Amid Crackdown

In an attempt to circumvent the decision of the Ministry of the Interior, some cafe owners in Casablanca have converted their living spaces into shisha bars.
Last Wednesday, March 18, a manhunt was launched by the auxiliary forces elements, within a building in Casablanca. About ten customers were thus trapped on the roof of the building, before being released a little later.
The owner of a cafe in Ben Msick and the building had decided to convert his first-floor apartment into a shisha space following the closure of his premises.
The raids on shisha bars had begun long before the closure of cafes was decreed by the Ministry of the Interior. 7 shisha spaces, including 2 operating illegally, had been destroyed by the Moroccan authorities.
