Tangier Authorities Demolish Unauthorized Buildings, Including Those of Elected Officials

In Tangier, the local authorities have ordered the demolition of several buildings built without authorization in several neighborhoods, some of which belonged to elected officials.
Tangier wants to put an end to anarchic constructions. Thus, the local authorities have deployed bulldozers in certain neighborhoods to demolish the buildings, which did not have legal authorizations, reports the daily Al Akhbar, specifying that some buildings belonged to elected officials carrying out their duties in the districts of the city. Two recently constructed residential buildings were demolished, in the Mesnana neighborhood and the Beni Makada district, in the presence of their owners. A municipal councilor from a district of the city was the owner of one of these two buildings.
After the demolition of the buildings, minutes were drawn up. The files of these offenses should be transmitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of determining the precise causes and circumstances of these.
After receiving reports, the authorities set up a commission whose mission is to examine this case and investigate the possible existence of mafia networks, who would sell illusory possibilities to their victims. They must also examine forged documents that have circulated, which would be attributed to the public authorities and the elected councils of the city. In the past, field investigation reports carried out by the administrative services had been transmitted to the authorities of the wilaya. It had been discovered that some politicians had taken over land, in Tangier or in the surrounding municipalities, by exploiting legal loopholes.
