Between Tangier and Assilah, Sand Pillaging
Authorities are actively fighting against the theft of sand from Moroccan beaches. On Friday, two trucks filled with illegal cargo were seized between Tangier and Assilah, leading to the immediate arrest of the drivers.
Illegal sand extraction represents a major environmental and economic threat to the region’s coastline. To curb this phenomenon, law enforcement conducted two distinct operations on Friday. In the Houara sector, agents first intercepted a heavy truck transporting sand illegally extracted from a beach. Later in the day, a second intervention took place in another area, allowing authorities to stop another vehicle potentially loaded from the same site.

On instruction from the public prosecutor’s office, both drivers were taken into custody. The judiciary opened an in-depth investigation to identify all individuals involved in these illicit activities. The investigators’ objective is to determine whether these thefts are the work of an organized network specializing in sand trafficking.
