Tangier Aims to Boost Revenue with Casino and Nightclub Taxes

The urban municipality of Tangier is banking on levies related to games and nightclubs to increase its tax revenues as part of the budget forecasts for the year 2025.
The Tangier finance committee is preparing the municipality’s budget. Currently, it is focusing on the issue of revenues. The municipal services expect revenues of around 10 million dirhams from the hotel establishment housing the city’s casino, reports Al Akhbar. In 2023, the amount paid to the municipality was around 10.2 MDH. Based on the observation that the previous office led by PJD elected officials had avoided raising municipal levies on the casino’s gaming proceeds, the municipality has decided to take the plunge.
The urban municipality of Tangier also counts on taxes related to entertainment venues, particularly nightclubs, to replenish its coffers. However, it is not excluded that the lobby defending the sector within the framework of an association will exert pressure on the municipality’s decision-makers.
Once drafted by the competent committee, the draft budget is submitted to the council members for examination and approval at a plenary session, at the end of which the budget is validated by the competent authorities, it is reported.
