Tangier Municipality Accused of Illegally Seizing French Citizen’s Land for Cemetery

The municipality of Tangier is accused of illegally appropriating a plot of land belonging to a French national. The issue of expropriation will be on the agenda of its next regular session.
It all started with a complaint filed by a lawyer on behalf of his French client. In the complaint, the lawyer states that the land located in Tanja Balia has been used as a collective cemetery for several years without legal regularization. Information confirmed by the wilaya of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region, in a correspondence it addressed to the president of the municipality of Tangier, a copy of which Ashkayn has.
The land is still registered in the name of the plaintiff, which requires immediate action to settle the matter through expropriation procedures, the Wali indicated in his correspondence. He then requested that the issue of expropriation be placed on the agenda of the regular session of the Tangier municipality scheduled for October 2024 in order to regularize the legal status of the land and complete the procedures relating to its public utility as a cemetery.
Tangier is a repeat offender. Proof of this, a large part of the debts accumulated by the municipality of Tangier through court judgments has been caused by infringements on private property without following legal procedures, the same site reports.
