Tangier Real Estate Developers Face Demolition Threat Over Urban Planning Violations

Reports from certain state services indicate serious violations of urban planning rules in the Wilaya of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. Major real estate developers in the city of Tangier would be involved in these irregularities and could see their properties demolished.
According to these reports prepared by the services of the Wilaya, several construction projects have been launched in the city of Tangier, in violation of the rules on urban planning, particularly the issuance of building permits. Sources have told Hespress that these offenses were committed under the mandate of the previous Wali and involve several real estate magnates of the city.
The reports revealed the non-compliance with the zoning provided for in the development plan, modifications made to the initial architectural plans, non-compliance with height and alignment easements, as well as the number of floors and balconies. Real estate developers, with the complicity of the authorities at the time, even managed to divert a public road that was within the perimeter of a plot of land belonging to an influential personality of the city.
The said reports were transmitted to the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit. An approach which, according to some observers, risks lengthening the finalization of the design and development plan for the Tangier-ville district and the commune of Gueznaia, which has been underway for years.
