Morocco’s Real Estate Crisis: Unsafe Buildings and Illegal Construction Practices Exposed

In Morocco, unscrupulous real estate developers do not hesitate to endanger the lives of citizens to whom they sell real estate of all standings, built with poor quality materials and in violation of the Urban Planning Code. The phenomenon is growing in the kingdom.
The recurrent collapse of residential buildings (economic, mid-range and high-end housing) in recent months has revealed the poor quality of construction materials used by these developers to build these buildings and their non-compliance with urban planning rules, reports the daily Assabah.
Voices have been raised to denounce these illegal practices of real estate developers who endanger the lives of their buyers. Some victims have even filed complaints with the justice system against these unscrupulous and greedy developers who "do not ensure the safety of workers on the construction site, do not take the necessary safety precautions during the construction work and do not respect the neighborhood."
According to the daily, some developers "circumvent the laws in force to avoid paying their taxes, not declaring workers to the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) and not taking out all-risk construction insurance." Worse, they are launching "construction sites on non-constructible land, former waterways or even former cemeteries," the same source continues, urging the authorities to ensure compliance with urban planning rules.
