Morocco Boosts Defense Budget to 133 Billion Dirhams for 2025

The 2025 Finance Bill has provided a budget of 133 billion dirhams for the Ministry of Defense. A budget increase compared to 2024 when 124 billion were allocated to this department. These funds will be used to acquire new equipment for the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

"The amount of authorized expenditures for the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the Administration of National Defense is set at 133 billion and 453 million dirhams (133,453,000,000 MAD) for the fiscal year 2025, an amount dedicated to the acquisition and repair of equipment of the Royal Armed Forces, as well as support for the development of the defense industry," states Article 39 of the 2025 Finance Bill.

The increase in the military budget is notably explained by the "creation of two industrial acceleration zones for defense," provided for in draft decree No. 2.23.925. It will also serve to increase the salaries of members of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), in accordance with draft decrees number 2.24.647 and 2.46.648.

In total, seven draft decrees related to the military field have been approved by the Council of Ministers, chaired by King Mohammed VI, according to a press release from the Royal Cabinet published on Friday. These decrees relate to the implementation of the special status of members of the Auxiliary Forces, members of civil protection and doctors working at the General Directorate of Civil Protection and its external services.

They also concern the determination of the salaries of military personnel receiving a monthly salary within the FAR, as well as the salaries, food and travel expenses of FAR military personnel benefiting from a special progressive remuneration.
