Morocco strengthens its military spending

Morocco is going all out on its defense. The general budget of the National Defense Administration for 2025 has seen a significant increase, as revealed by Abdelatif Loudiyi, the delegate minister in charge of national defense administration, before the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
This budget now amounts to 69.6 billion dirhams, or about 7 billion dollars. An increase justified, according to the minister, by the state’s desire to support the armed forces. Specifically, the allocated envelope reaches 58.7 billion dirhams, up 6% compared to 2024. To this amount are added 10.9 billion dirhams from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
In total, the defense budget represents 5% of the country’s GDP. A significant financial effort that reflects the importance accorded by Morocco to its military capabilities, especially with the rise of tensions with neighboring Algeria. Moreover, an exceptional budget of 133.5 billion dirhams (nearly 14 billion dollars) is dedicated to military contracts, particularly for the acquisition and repair of equipment.
This policy of strengthening military resources is part, according to Abdelatif Loudiyi, of the directives of King Mohammed VI, concerned to consolidate the defense and security plans of the Kingdom.
