Tangier’s Waterfront Project Languishes Despite Royal Inauguration

While voices are calling for accountability, the urban commune of Tangier has launched a call for the development of the city’s corniche, which is currently in a state of degradation.
Tangier wants to redo its corniche. Inaugurated by King Mohammed VI as part of the Tangier-Metropolis program, the site known for its unique panorama and modern, attractive infrastructure is today in a sad state "due to the actions of certain companies managing the various facilities on the site, particularly parking lots, nightclubs, hookah cocktail cafes," reports Al Akhbar. A failure for the city’s mayor, who was unable to contribute to the success of this project. This patent failure has also pushed city officials to ask the competent authorities to apply the constitutional principle of accountability and determine the responsibilities of each party.
Currently, the urban commune of Tangier is trying to solve the problems. It has launched new calls for tenders for the realization of development works on this city corniche, which starts in the West, at the entrance of the city, up to its exit in the East. This public contract includes "technical studies, roads, urban equipment, rehabilitation of sidewalks, reinforcement of roadways, earthworks and coatings, installation of signage, carpentry and painting work, public lighting, plantations...", it is specified. Once completed, these works will bring new life to the Tangier corniche.
