Moroccan Activist Jailed Again: Democracy’s Setback in Casablanca

Human rights activist and blogger Saïda Alami was sentenced on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 by the court of first instance in Aïn Sebaâ, Casablanca.
She was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of 20,000 dirhams for charges including "contempt of an organized body", "contempt of justice" and "dissemination of false allegations".
This judgment follows her arrest in Casablanca on July 1st last. Two days later, on July 3rd, the King’s Prosecutor ordered her detention and prosecution before the court.
This new conviction comes a little more than a year after Saïda Alami was granted a pardon by King Mohammed VI on July 29, 2024. She had then been released in the context of a previous case where she was facing similar charges, related to the same grounds of contempt and dissemination of false information.
