Tanger Med 2 Port Hits Milestone: 1 Million Containers Handled in First Year

In less than a year, the second container terminal of the APM Terminals group at the Tanger Med 2 port has announced that it has exceeded its first million TEUs handled.
"The first million reached remains special for our group," said Mehdi Ben Mouloud, Director of Operational Excellence at APM Terminal, for whom it is an achievement reached during the first year of operation. This performance was recorded thanks to the partnership between the port of Tanger Med, Maersk and APM Terminal, inaugurated in 2019, with an investment of 800 million dollars and above all, with the help of the Moroccan teams of the group.
In addition, the group has enabled the creation of 1,000 direct jobs, not to mention the indirect jobs. For 2020, the group’s objectives are clear: to increase in power even further to achieve more performance in the future.
APM Terminals Med Port Tanger, operator of the TC4 of Tanger Med, whose operations were officially launched in 2019, has an annual processing capacity, ultimately, of 5 million TEUs. It is equipped with the largest Double trolley STS cranes in the world and with ultra-modern technology, for the handling of the largest container ships in the world with fast, safe and efficient terminal operations.
It should be noted that this is the second transhipment terminal established by APM Terminals at the port of Tanger Med, with a state-of-the-art technological organization.
