APM Terminals Expands Capacity at Tanger Med 2 with New Equipment Order

APM Terminals aims to make the second container terminal of Tanger Med 2 that it operates, an infrastructure much larger in terms of capacity. It is in this context that handling equipment has been ordered to strengthen this port infrastructure.
In February 2020, a few months after the inauguration of APM Terminals MedPort Tangier, the second container terminal in Tanger Med, APM Terminals was already announcing its ambition to strengthen its fleet of handling equipment, in order to handle even larger volumes.
The Dutch concessionaire has therefore called on the equipment manufacturer Kalmar, specialized in the construction of handling equipment, for the order of 23 shuttle carriers. "These are semi-automated hybrid vehicles used in container handling" and which will reinforce those already received before the inauguration of this second container terminal.
"The latest batch of shuttles supports APM Terminals’ expansion of its new TM2 facility in Tangier, Morocco. These units to be delivered will be integrated into the terminal’s operating system via the KalmarOne software, complemented by professional services, maintenance and support," the group explains in its press release.
Jack Craig, Vice President, Global Head of Operations at APM Terminals, is pleased with the help that this new batch of equipment ordered could provide, especially on the productivity of the terminal’s activities.
