Tanger Med 2 Port Hits 1 Million Container Milestone in First Year

APM Terminals, the second transshipment terminal established by APM Terminals in the Tanger Med port complex, has exceeded 1 million TEUs handled in less than a year at the Tanger Med 2 port.
According to the Director of Operational Excellence within the APM Terminals group, Mehdi Ben Mouloud, reaching one million TEUs handled is an exploit and a very important event for the group. According to him, this figure was reached during the first year of operation. "The first million reached remains special for our group. This performance was recorded thanks to the partnership between the Port of Tanger Med, Maersk and APM Terminals, but mainly with the help of the highly qualified Moroccan teams of the group."
Speaking to the press, Ben Mouloud outlined the group’s objectives for 2020, indicating that the APM Terminals MedPort Tangier group plans to increase its capacity and productivity in the future. In his presentation, the manager said that APM Terminals MedPort Tangier has created around 1,000 direct jobs, in addition to indirect jobs.
Furthermore, the director specified that the group, the operator of the TC4 of Tanger Med, whose operations were officially launched in 2019, has an annual processing capacity of 5 million TEUs. It is also equipped with the largest Double trolley STS cranes in the world and the most advanced technology to handle the largest container ships in the world with fast, safe and efficient terminal operations.
APM Terminals MedPort Tangier, inaugurated in June 2019, required two years of construction and a total investment of $800 million.
