Tanger-Med Port Faces Massive Truck Backlog Amid Tightened Security Measures

For a few days now, endless lines of trucks have been recorded at the entrance to the port of Tanger-Med. The strengthening of truck control measures would be the cause of this blockage.
This strengthening of security at the port entrance follows an investigation conducted by elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) that led to the arrest of several security and customs officials from the port, according to sources cited by Rue20.
The investigation was initiated after the seizure at the port of Algeciras of 50 tons of cannabis resin transported in two trucks from the port of Tanger-Med, the same sources inform, specifying that several officials from the Spanish port, suspected of being involved in this drug trafficking, were also arrested by the Civil Guard.
The seizure of the 50 tons of hashish, estimated at nearly 50 million euros, is the largest operation since 2015, the Civil Guard said in a statement.
