Suspicious Deaths Prompt Investigation at Moroccan Psychiatric Hospital

The Tanger prosecutor’s office has decided to open an investigation into the ten "doubtful" suicides recorded in one year at the Errazi psychiatric hospital in Tanger. The bodies of some of the victims bore bruises on the head and signs of strangulation.

These ten suicides that occurred at the Errazi psychiatric hospital in Tanger have prompted the opening of a judicial investigation. According to some sources, one of the inmates of the psychiatric center would be behind this killing disguised as suicide, reports the daily Al Akhbar, noting that most of the "suicided" patients had bruises on the head and signs of strangulation.

However, the lack of surveillance cameras inside the premises where the lifeless bodies of the victims were discovered did not allow the investigators to verify this hypothesis. They also had a lot of trouble collecting information in the center, as the patients are mentally ill and have difficulty understanding the questions asked of them and do not give usable answers.

The public prosecutor’s office has drawn the attention of the hospital management to the need to install cameras in all the services of the center in order to facilitate the work of the investigators. In addition, the hypothesis of the existence of a killer among the inmates has not been ruled out, even if the management of the center considers these deaths as "accidental falls". Some call for a real reform of the psychiatric center to better ensure the safety of the inmates.
