Suspect Arrested After Violent Attack on Authority Agent in Casablanca

A man was arrested on Saturday after physically assaulting an authority agent in Casablanca. He is currently in custody as part of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor’s office.
The dissemination on social networks of a video viewed by the Casablanca police prefecture led to the arrest of the alleged aggressor. In this video, we see an authority agent walking alone, taken by surprise by a hooded individual, reports Le360. The man makes him fall to the ground before hitting him in the head. The uniformed agent comes out with a facial injury, particularly around the eye. He will be admitted to the emergency room of the Médecin Lieutenant Mohamed Baoufi hospital in the 2 mars district. The perpetrator of the assault is an itinerant merchant with a criminal record. His refusal to comply with the legal measures aimed at freeing the public space from street vendors led him to commit this criminal act. After his arrest, he was placed in custody as part of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor’s office.
Recently, the Wilaya of Casablanca launched an operation to free the public space. Drones are used to identify areas marked by illegal occupation of the public domain, unauthorized markets, unhealthy habitats, as well as gathering points for animal-drawn carts, allowing it to have a rich database of images and precise coordinates. Thanks to this data, the authorities are able to target their interventions and coordinate their operations on the ground.
