Casablanca Deploys Drones to Combat Illegal Occupation of Public Spaces

The Wilaya of Casablanca-Settat is currently carrying out an operation to free public spaces and unsanitary habitats that are illegally occupied. Drones are now being used.
The Wilaya of Casablanca-Settat is making the fight against illegal occupation of the public domain and unsanitary habitats its main focus. It now uses drones to identify areas marked by illegal occupation of the public domain, unauthorized markets, unsanitary habitats, as well as gathering points for animal-drawn carts, which allows it to have a rich database of images and precise coordinates, reports the Arabic-language daily Assabah. Thanks to this data, the authorities are able to target their interventions and coordinate their operations on the ground.
This is how they were able to intervene in mid-November in the neighborhoods of the old medina of Casablanca under the prefecture of Sidi Belyout, where several unauthorized markets are improvised, with kiosks in the middle of the alleys. The authorities also managed to dismantle a barn dedicated to the breeding of cows and closed several unauthorized businesses specializing in the sale of fruits and vegetables. Not to mention the demolition of an unauthorized market.
