Moroccan Authorities Arrest Alleged Conman Posing as Spy and Journalist
The services of the Casablanca prefecture have put an end to the activities of an individual who was posing as both an intelligence agent and a journalist-photographer.
The arrest of the alleged scammer took place on Friday. He is the subject of several complaints for a series of scams. Claiming to be an agent of the intelligence services, he is said to have scammed several individuals. In the latest complaint filed against him, he asked 40,000 dirhams from one of his victims, promising to intervene in his favor in an ongoing legal dispute, reports the daily Assabah. The alleged scammer claimed to have personal and professional connections with several influential people working for the Ministry of Justice, including a senior official in the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
This was enough to convince his victim to ask him to intervene in his favor in exchange for money. The complainant says he met this "fake spy" in a cafe in Casablanca. The multiple and insistent demands of the fake intelligence agent aroused the suspicions of his potential victim. The latter recorded one of their conversations. A recording that will be useful for the investigators.
This repeat offender also posed as a journalist-photographer and presented himself several times at police checkpoints. He thus traveled from city to city without arousing suspicion, and targeted his victims in different places in Morocco, in order to scam several people. After his arrest, he was taken into custody. Currently, the investigators are questioning him about possible accomplices.
