Prison sentence for a fraudster in uniform in Rabat

The Court of First Instance in Rabat has just sentenced a fake policeman who defrauded merchants in the city and other neighboring cities to two years in prison.
The defendant was arrested on January 2, in the act of fraud and identity theft. He was posing as a police officer to defraud merchants in Rabat, Salé and Oujda, to whom he promised to intercede on their behalf for an exemption from customs duties on their imported goods, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
The fake policeman took large sums of money from these merchants in exchange for this alleged service. The preliminary investigation conducted by the judicial police of Rabat revealed that the defendant has a criminal record and is the subject of several national arrest warrants for the same offenses.
During his arrest, the police found a plastic pistol, contraband handcuffs, a walkie-talkie, a fake police badge, as well as fake business cards, phone chips and bank cards on him.
