Survey: Only 1 in 4 Moroccans Plan to Travel as COVID-19 Restrictions Ease

After living under the stress of the coronavirus pandemic for more than three months, some Moroccans are just waiting for the complete lifting of the state of health emergency to get away a bit. These are the data published by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) in the 2nd panel on the impact of covid-19 on the economic, social and psychological situation of households.

Conducted by the HCP from June 15 to 24 with 2,169 households, the main objective of this survey is to identify "the evolution of socio-economic and preventive behaviors in the context of Covid-19 and to identify and assess the repercussions of this global health crisis on the different segments of the Moroccan population". Thus, according to the statistics, the intention to travel was expressed by 26.1% of Moroccans, across all social classes.

This panel also indicates that 7 out of 10 households do not plan to travel during the next summer vacation. Regarding the chosen destination, 78.9% prefer to visit family members, especially after such a long separation. The others have opted either for rental homes, secondary homes, summer camps, hotels or hotel residences.

For those who preferred to stay at home and have no intention of traveling, lack of means is the main reason. The second is that they are not in the habit of traveling and the third reason is the fear of being contaminated by Covid-19. For this last reason, several households "recommend regularly disinfecting and sanitizing tourist sites".

"37.5% recommend controlling the application of protective measures in rental properties and 34.2% are in favor of strengthening control measures for staff and customers". Others insist on respecting barrier gestures and suggest reducing the number of customers in tourist establishments to minimize the risk of contamination.
