Moroccan Mask Usage Soars to 97% Amid Covid-19, HCP Study Finds

According to the 2nd panel on the impact of Covid-19 on the economic, social and psychological situation of households just published by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), Moroccans are not lagging behind in the fight against the spread of the pandemic.
This HCP study found a clear improvement in the proportion of households having face masks and protective masks, particularly between April and June, where it increased from 73% to 97% nationwide. During this time, it increased from 81% to 99% in urban areas and from 57% to 93% in rural areas. Also, there is an increase in the proportion of Moroccans who have them in sufficient quantities (from 33% to 80%).
Regarding disinfectants, the HCP points out that the proportion of households that have them stood at 68% (76% in urban areas and 50% in rural areas), while in June, a good half of households (53%) had disinfectants in sufficient quantities, compared to only 40% in the previous two months. However, it should be noted that almost all households, or 95.1%, observed the instructions related to the adoption of barrier gestures throughout the deconfinement period, in order to protect themselves against the coronavirus.
On another aspect, the HCP survey reveals that for prophylactic practices, 87% of households observed hand washing, (78%) wore masks or face masks, 47% avoided handshakes and physical greetings, 31% maintained a safe distance from others, 27% regularly disinfected surfaces and objects that could be infected, while 25% avoided points of sale.
Furthermore, the same survey points out that 4.9% of households, or 414,000, said they would not adopt any preventive measures, or 7.1% in rural areas and 4% in urban areas. Among them, "48% come from the 40% of the poorest households, 20% from those headed by an inactive person, 17.2% by a worker and 15% by a farmer," the same source notes.
