Moroccan Travel Demand Surges Despite COVID-19 Spike, Air Space Reopening Awaited

The recent exponential increase in coronavirus infections has not prevented Moroccans from expressing their desire to travel. Accustomed to leaving their country for abroad during the summer period, they hope for the reopening of air space to discover new destinations.
Coronavirus or not, Moroccans want to enjoy the summer vacation. Many have decided to leave despite the situation and the delicate choice of accommodation. Between classified hotels, renting private homes or staying with family, the recurring question is that of compliance with health measures to avoid any contamination by the virus, recalls Hespress. Faced with this health crisis situation, hotel and rental property managers have redoubled their efforts to welcome their visitors under the required safety conditions.
According to a study by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), 26.1% of Moroccans want to travel for the summer vacation. For Amine, 29, a project manager in a communications company in Rabat, the accommodation is already booked in advance, thanks to AirBnb for an upcoming family stay. According to the Moroccan executive, he made this decision not to take big risks in the face of the uncertainty about the duration of this health crisis situation. "Moreover, the choice of an AirBnB rental guarantees me more security since I’m going there with my family with whom I was already confined," he adds.
Sharing the same vision of the summer vacation as Amine, Houda, 30, a banker in Casablanca, hopes to enjoy a few days with her loved ones in her vacation home in Kabila. Unlike the project manager, she owns a property, which allows her to be reassured and less exposed to less risk than staying in a hotel room.
According to the same source, 71.5% of Moroccan families have no intention of traveling this summer, for fear of contracting the coronavirus. Greatly frightened by the current situation, Zineb, 26, refuses to take this risk by traveling. "I won’t expose myself to the risk of being contaminated. I prefer to arm myself with patience rather than put myself and my family in danger. The current situation doesn’t make me want to move at all, even from my home," she specifies.
