COVID-19 Impacts Summer Travel Plans for 71% of Moroccan Households, Survey Finds

In its 2nd panel on the impact of covid-19 on the economic, social and psychological situation of households, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) reveals that more than 7 out of 10 households, or 71.5%, do not plan to travel during the summer vacation.
This rate is 80.6% among rural residents and 67.3% among urban residents. Most households (78.9%) plan to spend these vacations with their families, in rental homes (8.2%), secondary residences (4.1%), summer camps (3.2%) and hotels or hotel residences (3%).
The main reason given by 39.4% of households who do not intend to travel during the next summer vacation is the lack of means. 26.1% of households justify their choice by the fact that they are not used to traveling during vacations.
A third category of households (15.3%) cites the covid-19 crisis and the fear of being infected.
In addition, households propose a number of health measures to revive domestic tourism. These include regularly disinfecting tourist sites, respecting protective measures in rental properties, and making masks and disinfectant gels available to customers.
