Morocco Unveils $3.8 Billion Airport Expansion Plan to Boost Tourism and World Cup Readiness

A memorandum of understanding was signed this Thursday in Rabat between the government and the National Airports Office (ONDA), establishing a roadmap for the 2025-2030 period. This strategic plan provides for a total investment of 38 billion dirhams for the development of the country’s airport infrastructure.
The investment is divided into two main parts. A first envelope of 25 billion dirhams is allocated to increasing the capacity of the airports in Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Fez. This amount also covers the construction of a new HUB terminal and an additional runway for the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca.
A second envelope of 13 billion dirhams will be devoted to maintenance operations, the modernization of equipment and land acquisition. These actions aim to ensure the sustainability and operational efficiency of the airport network. Through this plan, ONDA aims to develop a public service focused on excellence and innovation.
This program is part of the vision of making Morocco a regional platform and a reference air hub. The objectives are to adapt the air transport sector to national ambitions, contribute to economic growth, territorial integration and social inclusion, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This roadmap is aligned with the "Airport 2030" strategy. It is designed to support the growth of Royal Air Maroc, to absorb the expected increase in air traffic and to support key sectors such as tourism, particularly in the perspective of the Football World Cup that the country will co-host.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, the Delegate Minister in charge of the Budget, as well as the Managing Directors of the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Participations and ONDA.
