Surgeon Ordered to Pay $14,000 for Leaving Surgical Compress in Patient’s Uterus

A surgeon practicing in Fez was ordered to pay the sum of 140,000 dirhams to a patient, for a serious medical malpractice. The doctor had forgotten a compress in her uterus.
Rare, this medical fault generally poses the problem of responsibility and compensation. According to the site Amnous, the patient, a 24-year-old woman, had sued the doctor and the clinic to be compensated.
In its verdict, the judge at the court of first instance in Fez ruled in favor of the victim, condemning the clinic and the surgeon to compensate her for the damage caused, due to their joint responsibility.
As for the facts, the patient had been admitted to a private clinic for a routine surgical procedure. Just after the operation, the victim had spent nearly a month complaining of excruciating pain in the abdomen.
