Medical Error: Dressing Left in Mother’s Abdomen After C-Section in Morocco

The doctors in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the Benguerir hospital forgot to remove a dressing from the abdomen of a young mother during a cesarean section performed on Wednesday, April 22.
The victim, N. A., experienced atrocious postoperative pain, requiring her transfer to the Ibn Tofail Hospital Center in Marrakech. A second intervention was necessary to remove a foreign body from her lower abdomen, reports Alyaoum24.
For his part, the director of the Benguerir hospital and the regional delegate of the Ministry of Health, who avoided handing over the medical report to the victim’s family, refuses to acknowledge the medical error of the team that performed the cesarean section, led by a Chinese surgeon.
To make up for this gross medical error and avoid legal proceedings, the victim received special medical care at the Rhamna hospital, where she was taken care of by a specialized medical team, the site reported.
The Benguerir hospital would not be at its first medical fault, the site claims. Another woman had died a dozen days earlier, following a cesarean section performed in the same department.
