Moroccan Surgeon Faces Charges in Blogger’s Death After Cosmetic Surgery

Following the death of blogger Imane Bensmina, 32, after a routine cosmetic surgery, her family filed a complaint against the surgeon and the clinic where she had been operated on. The accused is now being prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter.
Nearly a month after the blogger’s death, the family wants to finally know the truth about this tragedy that took their daughter. The case, entrusted to Me Meriem Berrada, a lawyer at the Casablanca bar, is currently in the hands of the King’s Prosecutor, reports Le 360.
All eyes are on the autopsy report, which could determine whether Imane Bensmina died from postoperative complications or a medical error.
The surgeon risks "a prison sentence ranging from 3 months to 5 years," according to Article 432 of the Penal Code, which penalizes medical error, if the report concludes that the young woman’s death was related to a doctor’s mistake.
To recall, the young woman is said to have died of a pulmonary embolism after undergoing a routine cosmetic surgery, a liposuction that involves suctioning fat from certain regions of the body. According to Imane Bensmina’s brother, this fat would have migrated to the young woman’s heart and blocked her arteries during this operation.
