Moroccan Woman Dies After Liposuction Procedure in Rabat Clinic

Cosmetic surgery has just claimed a new victim in Morocco, with the death of Imane, 32, following a liposuction operation that went wrong.
Imane Bensmina had gone to a specialized clinic in the capital to undergo fat cell aspiration. This simple cosmetic operation, however, turned into a tragedy. The victim had to spend 8 hours in the operating room before being declared dead on June 17, 3 days after her admission.
This period of uncertainty was very painful and above all unacceptable for her family, who could not have access to the intensive care unit due to Covid-19, let alone obtain the report of the intervention.
Faced with the silence of the practitioners, her cousin, in a message on Facebook, tried to convey the pain of her parents, to denounce "the crooks who take advantage of the trust of their patients", and to raise public awareness about the risks associated with this practice in Morocco.
Pending the possibility that "this case will create a buzz so that a real debate takes place in Morocco on the subject of cosmetic surgery", as her cousin wishes, the justice system has been seized and an autopsy of the body has been ordered by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
