Morocco Clarifies Fines for International License Plates Amid Road Safety Push

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics has issued a press release to clarify the situation regarding the fines for vehicles bearing international registration plates.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics is trying to put an end to the speculation about the fines for vehicles bearing international registration plates. In a press release, it explains that the offenses observed do not concern the mere presence of vehicles registered for international circulation on national territory. The fines issued relate to the non-compliance with the technical characteristics of the registration plates as defined by law, in particular the provisions of Articles 61-12, 61-13 and 61-14 of Decree No. 2.10.271 of September 29, 2010, relating to plate standards.
Measures had already been taken to facilitate the travel of citizens. Thus, it had been authorized, pending the finalization of the amendments to Article 28 of the aforementioned decree, to use international registration plates (in accordance with Annex 13) including for circulation in Morocco. A measure aimed at preventing road users from being fined when they travel abroad with their vehicles.
In a correspondence addressed to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) as well as to the High Command of the Royal Gendarmerie in the context of the application of these directives, they were asked to kindly instruct their control agents to take into account the content of this press release during their interventions.
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics also reaffirms its commitment to modernize the transport sector and strengthen road safety. It says it is still willing to provide citizens with all the necessary explanations regarding the organizational measures and procedures in force.
