The International University Hospital Mohammed VI in Bouskoura has just achieved a new surgical feat. On September 15, a team of surgeons successfully performed a mandibular reconstruction on a patient using a 3D printed titanium prosthesis.
Faithful to its mission to use the latest technologies to ensure better care for its patients, the International University Hospital Mohammed VI in Bouskoura has just achieved a new feat during a maxillofacial surgery procedure led by Prof. Kounimba Coulibaly. He successfully performed a mandibular reconstruction on a patient with a tumor using the latest advances in medical engineering (a 3D printed titanium prosthesis).
The technology used allowed the patient to "not only preserve her facial morphology, but also maintain her motor skills, while reducing the surgical time, the risk of nosocomial infection and promoting a rapid recovery for the patient," the hospital explains in a press release. According to Prof. Kounimba Coulibaly, maxillofacial surgeon, "the patient treated has regained normal speech and occlusion without any problem of asymmetry in the face. The postoperative course was excellent and the patient is experiencing no postoperative symptoms."
