Suicide Crisis Deepens in Northern Morocco as 30th Case Reported in 2019

In Chefchaouen, a 21-year-old young man was found hanged at his home, in a douar in Bni Salah, under the Caïdat of Bab Taza, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. This brings the number of suicides recorded in the north of the Kingdom since the beginning of 2019 to 30.
Suicide is taking on alarming proportions in the north of the Kingdom of Morocco. According to local sources, cited by the site presstetouan.com, a 21-year-old young man would have hanged himself early on Wednesday, July 31, in the morning, using a rope, without attracting attention, until he was discovered by members of his family, upon waking up, in Chefchaouen.
Immediately, the deceased’s family alerted the gendarmerie elements. On their arrival at the scene, they made the usual findings, before ordering the transfer of the body to the morgue of the Mohammed V Hospital in Chefchaouen.
With this new tragedy, there are now 30 cases of suicide in the north of the Kingdom. This unfortunate situation worries the Association "Woudouh, Toumouh, Chajaâ" ("Clarity, ambition, courage"), Tétouan section. This association is crying out to decision-makers, associative actors and researchers. They are called upon to define strategies capable of circumscribing the phenomenon.
