Morocco Leads North Africa in Female Suicide Rate, WHO Report Finds

Morocco is at the top of the ranking of North African countries with the highest suicide rate, which would be the highest among women.
In its 2016 World Suicide Report, published on the sidelines of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that in Morocco, 3.6 suicide deaths per 100,000 inhabitants are recorded among women.
This statistical data thus places the Kingdom at the top of the ranking of countries with the highest suicide rate in North Africa. In total, Morocco recorded 1,014 suicides, including 613 among women.
As for the rates of the other North African countries, they remained below 3.0. Libya recorded the second highest female suicide rate (2.3), followed by Tunisia (2.2), Algeria (1.8) and finally Egypt (1.7), the report states.
