Suicide Crisis Deepens in Northern Morocco: 26 Deaths Reported in Chefchaouen Province

An octogenarian committed suicide in Douar Tifraouen, in the province of Chefchaouen. With this latest case, the number of suicides is 26 in this region of northern Morocco.
Aged 85, this mother of 5 children was found dead, with a rope around her neck, by her family members, at her home, reports Hespress. The reasons for this suicide remain unknown for the time being.
Alerted, the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie and the local authorities went to the scene. After the usual findings, the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the Mohammed V Provincial Hospital in Chefchaouen. An investigation has been opened to elucidate this tragedy.
Suicide cases are multiplying in this region. According to Abdellmajid Aharz, a social actor in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region, 26 cases of unnatural death have been recorded in the region since the beginning of 2019. He also denounces the inaction of the Government.
According to the social actor, the "poor" socio-economic situation experienced by the inhabitants of the region and the fragility of personal relationships between them are, among other things, the causes of the many suicide cases that this region of the Kingdom has experienced.
