Struggling Ounahi Faces Uncertainty for Morocco’s AFCON Qualifiers and Marseille Future

Azzedine Ounahi may not be part of the final list of players called up for the matches against Gabon and Lesotho scheduled for September 6 and 10, counting for the first and second rounds of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) Morocco.
In poor form, Ounahi is not in Roberto De Zerbi’s plans. The Italian coach of Olympique de Marseille did not line up the Moroccan international for the first match of this season against Brest, played on Saturday and won by the Marseille club with a convincing score of 5-1. A victory to which his compatriot Amine Harit (27 years old), started for this match, contributed.
Roberto De Zerbi is not convinced by the performance of the Atlas Lion and wants to part with him during this summer transfer window. If Ounahi does not receive an interesting offer and does not leave OM this summer, he risks spending the entire season on the substitute bench.
The midfielder could suffer the same fate in the national team. Clearly, Walid Regragui has no interest in calling up a player who is not active in his club. The Moroccan coach is rather looking for dynamic talents to strengthen the Atlas Lions. He would plan to call up some Lionceaux who were revealed during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, for the next matches scheduled in September.
After shining at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ounahi is going through a bad patch. Several clubs in Spain and Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in the 24-year-old player who could accept one of these offers and leave the Marseille club where he is now unwanted.
