Moroccan Star Ounahi Rejects Lucrative Qatar Offer, Remains at Marseille

The Azzedine Ounahi saga seems far from over. As the summer transfer window draws to a close, the Moroccan midfielder, at odds with his coach Roberto De Zerbi, has still not left Olympique de Marseille. An attractive offer from Qatar has been made, but the Moroccan international has chosen to decline it.
Arrived at the Canebière last January, buoyed by his performances during the World Cup in Qatar, Ounahi has failed to confirm the hopes placed in him. Placed on the transfer list by the Marseille management, the 24-year-old player seemed destined for a departure.
It was L’Équipe who revealed Al-Sadd’s interest in Azzedine Ounahi. The Qatari club would have offered a sum of 12.5 million euros to OM to secure the services of the Atlas Lion, who would receive a salary of 7 million euros per year. A substantial offer that could have allowed the Phocaean club to lighten its payroll. But against all expectations, Ounahi has chosen to stay at Marseille.
The reasons for this refusal remain unclear. Perhaps the player wants to give himself a new chance at OM? Or does he have even higher salary demands that the Qatari club did not wish to meet? In any case, this decision further complicates the situation of OM, which is trying to get rid of several unwanted players before the transfer window closes.
Unless there is a last-minute turnaround, Azzedine Ounahi should therefore remain at OM at least until the next transfer window. A situation that is not ideal for the player, nor for the club, nor for the Moroccan national team, which must seriously prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations.
