Marseille Seeks Late Transfer for Underutilized World Cup Star Ounahi

While the 2024 summer transfer window has closed for Ligue 1 clubs, Olympique de Marseille (OM) would still like to part ways with its Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.
Revelation of the 2022 World Cup with Morocco, Ounahi was unable to establish himself at Marseille, notably due to injuries. He is not in the plans of the new coach, Roberto De Zerbi. The latter is not counting on him for the new season. Currently, the OM management has directed its search towards certain championships where the transfer period is not yet over.
Thus, contacts have taken place between the officials of the Greek Olympiacos for Ounahi to join his compatriot Ayoub El Kaabi in the great Greek club. The transfer period in the Greek championship extends until September 14. OM has also turned to clubs in the Portuguese championship and the Saudi Pro League where the summer transfer window has not yet ended. The club’s wish is to replenish its coffers by parting ways with the Moroccan international.
Ounahi had received a loan offer from the Greek club Panathinaikos during the current transfer window, but Mehdi Benatia, the sports director of OM, declined the offer. The Marseille club is leaning towards a transfer of Ounahi to a Qatari club, which could bring them a lot, but the FRMF is firmly opposed.
