STMicroelectronics Expands Morocco Plant, Creating 700 Jobs for Electric Vehicle Chip Production

Since 2020, STMicroelectronics (ST) has begun the expansion of its new production line in Bouskoura for an amount of 2.4 billion DH. A major project that has already allowed the creation of several hundred jobs.

The ST expansion project includes an expansion of the production area of 7,500 m², allowing the creation of more than 700 jobs, including 100 engineers. Currently, significant recruitments are even underway, for the implementation of a new production line specialized in the manufacture of cutting-edge silicon carbide products used in electric vehicles by the world’s leading automakers.

Present at the inauguration of the new production line, Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry, noted that this factory constitutes a real feat for the national electronics industry. "It will allow Morocco to strengthen its positioning in the automotive sector’s value chain, as a preferred destination for cutting-edge international investments, particularly in electric mobility, and as a pioneering country in the electronics industry," assured the minister.

"By producing competitive electronic components of world-class quality designed by predominantly Moroccan skills, Morocco is making giant strides towards the realization of its industrial sovereignty and confirming its enormous development potential in response to emerging needs such as the electric car, 5G, connected objects or Industry 4.0," added the minister.

In his speech, Fabio Gualandris, Executive Vice President, Director of Back-end Technology and Manufacturing Organization at ST, assured that the investments made to increase production capacity and improve facilities, as well as the significant ongoing recruitment, underline the importance of the development of ST Bouskoura.

Specialized in the assembly and testing of electronic components, ST Bouskoura is one of the most advanced sites in the world in terms of automation and technology. It provides products meeting the highest quality requirements and contributing to STMicroelectronics’ leadership in products dedicated to the electrification of vehicles and the digital transformation of industrial companies.
