Stellantis Expands Moroccan Plant to Produce Factory Robots

After ordinary cars and electric cars, Stellantis has decided to produce AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) robots in its factory in Kénitra, Morocco.
Stellantis continues to invest massively in Morocco. After an investment of 300 million euros a little over two years ago to double the production capacity of its Kénitra plant, the group has just announced that this unit will produce AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle), robots that will help move components and equipment in the factories. Stellantis aims for an annual production of 1,000 AGVs, reports Faro de Vigo.
The Kénitra plant is one of the "five Stellantis plants in the world to produce this equipment in-house," said Samir Cherfan, director of the Middle East and Africa region of Stellantis, specifying that an AGV is assembled every three hours by a team of 36 operators. "In just four weeks, 90 AGVs have been produced, supporting our ambitious goal of increasing production capacity to 60 vehicles per hour," he added.
Stellantis Kénitra will use "more than 170 locally sourced parts" to manufacture these AGVs, the manager also indicated, stressing that this project aims to "reduce dependence on external suppliers" and to "promote local profitability, competitiveness and sustainable automation". In the same vein, Mounir Kharbouche, director of the plant, supported that these AGVs with a load capacity of 1,200 kilos, value "local know-how and our commitment to sustainable solutions".
